Unlike other pieces where the wires are shaped onto the wood to emphasize the flow of its grain, the brass is used here to explicitly model the visage of some kind of beast. The brass tongue extends from the core of the sculpture, the heat of the bulb, and passes through the spikes and scales of the driftwood before coming out as a fierce curl of flame. The head embodies a kind of passion and intensity, to keep pushing forward with a zeal that comes from within.
